Dutch Blitz Hints and Tips
We are frequently asked if it is possible to play
Dutch Blitz with more than four players. We have received
feedback from the field that it is possible to play with up to
eight players by doing the following:
Take one full Dutch Blitz card deck, and mark the side with the pump, plow, wagon or pail with a special symbol, such as a *.
Combine the card deck which is now marked with another Dutch Blitz card deck which remains unmarked.
Play exactly as you would with four players, except the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth players will use the cards with the * markings.
When scoring, separate the cards with * out from the cards without *.
We would also like to remind Dutch Blitz fans that the game can be played with two players. Simply use five post piles instead of three.
One of our players offered these tips for those who are new to
the game or are returning after a spell. Hope these tips help!!

Dutch Piles: 1-10 in ascending sequence by color, from Post, Blitz or Wood piles. “1” begins a new pile, “10” finishes a pile (turn over pile)
Post Piles: fill empty Post Pile with card from Blitz Pile. Advanced: cards in descending sequence (alternating boy/girl) from Post, Blitz or Wood piles
Blitz Pile: 10 cards, stop game-play by yelling “Blitz” when it is empty.
Wood Pile: Cards turned face up from Hand in sets of three.
Hand: Empty to Wood Pile, and repeatObjective: Score points by playing as many cards as possible on Dutch Piles, and by emptying your Blitz Pile as quickly as possible.
Preparation:
1. Each player selects and shuffles a 40 card deck with one design (pump, carriage, pail, or plow)
2. Create three face-up Post Piles (1 card in each), and a face-up Blitz Pile (10 cards)
Play:
1. Place cards from Wood Piles, Post Piles and Blitz Pile onto Dutch Piles in ascending order by color.
2. Advanced rule: Place cards from Wood Piles, Post Piles and Blitz Pile onto Post Piles in descending order, alternating boy/girl.3. Fill empty Post Piles with a card from Blitz Pile.
4. Hold deck face-down, take off the top three cards and turn them face-up onto Wood Pile. Repeat.
5. Game-play stops when a player empties his Blitz Pile and yells “Blitz!”
Scoring:
+1 for each card played in Dutch Piles
-2 for each card remaining in Blitz Pile
The first player to reach 75 points wins
Additional rules:
1. Yell “Dutch” to stop the game and correct any misplayed cards.
2. Only use one hand to play cards. Only one card may be picked up at a time.
3. Use five Post Piles instead of three when playing with two players.
Tips:
1. Give preference to playing cards from Blitz Pile above cards from Post Piles and Wood Piles.
2. Only build onto the Post Piles if it helps you use up your Blitz Pile. Building onto the Post Piles is an optional rule for advanced play, and can be ignored by beginners.
